Wouldn’t it be awesome if you could just walk into a store, look at the different marketing channels and just choose the one that suits you?
Gabriel Weinberg and Justin Mares thought of something similar. They have written a great book called Traction, which talks about different marketing channels. So, I would like to introduce you to some of the best marketing channels.
Whether you are a small business, a startup, or a solopreneur. Whether in the B2B or B2C area. These channels are the right lever to grow your business.
Let’s go.
1. Content Marketing
Put simply, content marketing is marketing with the help of free content. That means you create, e.g., a blog that you fill with high-quality content. A concrete example would be this article you are reading right now.
Inbound marketing doesn’t work without free content. That’s why I can only advise everyone to start with content marketing.
The beauty here is that once you invest in content, it keeps bringing visitors, leads, and, ultimately, customers. Especially if you focus on evergreen content, i.e., timeless content. Unlike when placing ads, for example, where after you stop the investment, the flow of visitors also sinks in.
In addition, if you regularly publish high-quality content, you position yourself as a tough leader in your industry and thus become a real visitor magnet.
2. Social media
Today, it is actually unthinkable to do without social media. Of course, you always have to go where your target audience hangs out. And today, we all hang out on social networks.
Needless to say, social media is also perfect for spreading your content. That’s why social media belongs in every modern marketing mix today.
Accordingly, social media is a quick and easy way to reach your target audience. But the biggest advantage is that you reach people who may not even know they have a problem – unlike the search engine, where the searcher is actively looking for a solution.
3. Social Ads
Social networks also have to finance themselves somehow. This is through ads. Above all, they sit on valuable data and know almost everything about us (a marketer’s dream.) That’s why social ads are also a wonderful way to promote your content.
The big advantage here is that you can choose exactly the audience you want to reach. So, you can increase the reach of your target group at the push of a button.
Especially functions like Lookalike Audiences from Facebook, where a similar audience is generated based on your visitors or contacts, are very powerful.
4. Public Relations (PR)
Journalists are always looking for good stories. After all, one publication lives off it. That’s why PR is and will always be a good way to get attention to your company.
PR still builds brands today. We are convinced of that. It’s not the only way anymore, but it’s still the fastest.
Creative PR stunts, in particular, can bring amazing results.
5. Display Ads
Ads across display networks, most notably the Google Display Network, are also interesting. Here you place your banners on many different other websites. But, again, you should not underestimate the extremely large reach of such networks.
Alternatively, you can solve it without a display network, go directly to the site operator and offer them a fixed price for your banners.
You get the opportunity to place your ads on relevant websites based on categories or relevant terms.
6. Viral Marketing
Viral marketing is when your existing user recommends your product and attracts at least one additional user.
When your viral loop works, customers will come to you in flocks, without you having to do much for it.
7. Email Marketing
Good old manual email campaigns or automated email sequences. Email marketing is still one of the most important marketing channels, despite repeated claims to the contrary. Above all, it is one of the most profitable channels.
Email is a very personal medium. Therefore, it serves perfectly to build a relationship with your prospect and to maintain and strengthen it later.
Above all, automation saves a lot of time because the technology does a lot of the pre-sales work for you. This way, you can accompany your potential customers perfectly on their customer journey, just as it suits them.
